Advice on Ending the School Year
By: Audrey Pavelsky
It’s almost that time again for clubs to be ending soon. Since the beginning of school, our administrators and teachers have allowed us to sign up for clubs during focus every morning. We would like to thank them because if it weren’t for them we would have to sit in the classroom and read for 30 minutes and I know some of us hate that. Now that clubs are about to end, it’s time for us to buckle down with our work because EOGs and EOCs are coming up a little bit faster. We need to continue to work hard in our core classes (and electives), stay out of the office, and listen to our teachers to make sure we can all pass the EOG and EOC!!!
Relay For Life
By: Audrey Pavelsky
Relay For Life is a fantastic organization that helps raise money for cancer research. Many of us have family and friends that we know who have been affected by cancer. This is a great opportunity to give back and help people. Relay For Life is back again this year with many more fundraisers!!! We will be selling cupcakes w/ candles. If you purchase one for $1 we will put your name on it and hang it up on a wall. Remember they are not edible because they’re paper so please don’t eat them. This will be going on until next Friday the 20th. We will also have a dance next Friday. If you purchase a wristband in advance for $3 you can wear jeans all day. If you purchase one for $5 in advance then you can dress all the way out of uniform all day! We would like to thank Mrs. White and everybody else on the Relay For Life team for bringing this to us. If there is anyone who would like to become part of the team, please talk to our 7th grade science teacher, Mrs. White. Support Relay For Life and you just might help save a life!
The Living Museum
Joslynn Strickland
The 8th grade students are working on the living museum project for Social Studies. They will be writing a 5 page paper about one county in North Carolina and a famous person from that county. The students will be presenting this project with a PowerPoint or Prezi. They have to dress as the famous person in that county and give a 2 minute speech to go along with it. These presentations will be performed on Social Studies night at Nash Central Middle on May 8, 2012. It will be 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., so come and support our 8th graders and view all the hard work they have done!
Spring Spirit Week
By: Alexia Carr
Nash Central students participated in spirit week from 3/12/12 through 3/16/12. The first was luau day. Students had a choice of buying leis or hibiscus flowers at lunch, or they could wear some type of luau clothing. The second day was dress as your favorite teacher. The third day was dress as your favorite character. The fourth day was favorite superstar day. The fifth day was Trojan blue and gold day. The fifth day was the most exciting day for students because of the pep rally and Trojan idol. The pep rally turned out great! Students that played spring sports were announced at the pep rally, the winner of Trojan idol was announced, which is now Eric Moore. Mrs. James was announced as the Kiss the Pig winner. During the pep rally, there also were some grade level competitions. Also on Friday during lunch, students could pay to smash the car for their favorite or least favorite teacher. This year they also let students pay $2 to throw a pie at their favorite teacher. Spirit week, like usual, was a ton of fun for all the students of Nash Central Middle.

New Technology used at NCMS
By: Areyon Williams
On February 22nd, Mr. Finn’s classes were the first to use FaceTime. We had Mrs. Cronkhite’s class on call and Mr. Finn taught both classes. If we had a question we went up to the Ipad and asked it so both classes could hear it and he would answer it. We were the first classes in Nash County to do this. We are now the first school to use new technology like this and hopefully we will be using it more often.
School uses New Technology in QR Codes
By Javan Richardson
At Nash Central Middle, we are using QR codes to see if we are missing assignments. By using QR codes we can access our classwork assignments at home and we can see our upcoming events here. QR codes are very fast to use and it gives us a chance to use our electronic devices and tablets. We are learning 21st century skills at NCMS.
This picture is of Mrs. Baumgartner's door. We are using this QR code for our culture fair project.

The Frankie’s Fun Park Trip
By: Breonna Griggs & Annette Salazar
For the 3rd six weeks, we went to Frankie’s Fun Park in Raleigh for our PBIS trip. Everyone had a blast with rides and games. Some of the great rides were the Drop Zone, Go Karts, Tilt-A-Whirl, Sky Winder, and Sky Trail. The arcade was full of games and laser tag. You also had a variety of games to choose from, from race games to guitar hero. Frankie’s also has their very own restaurant called Frankie’s Restaurant where they had amazing food. We hope to we go again on March 30th!
NCMS Pep Rally
By: Alexia Carr
Nash Central Middle School had another great pep rally. It started off with some music from the Pep Band
and then a well done cheerleading routine. Then there was an awesome stepping routine. Next all of the
winter sports teams were presented. Coach Brewer introduced the boy’s team, while Coach White introduced
the girl’s team. Coach Baron introduced the wrestling team. Then we had a grade level competition where
students had to run the length of the basketball court with a balloon under their neck. As we always do we
lastly had the spirit stick contest, and the eighth graders won again. It was a fun, fantastic afternoon of
school spirit.

Our mentors provide a valuable service which empowers students in our community to achieve success in school and in their life. We are always searching for more people who have one hour a week that they can dedicate to help students, to provide them with a security net — a community of support — to contribute to their success. Those who would like to provide this valuable service to their community should contact us immediately at 252-442-9991.
Communities In Schools of the Rocky Mount Region focuses on helping students through challenges in middle school, by placing mentors at Edwards, Nash Central, Parker, and Red Oak middle schools. CIS also provides mentors to the Williford Elementary School Family Resource Center to help students who are starting out. Our goal is to improve students’ academic and non-academic support through our volunteer mentors. CIS brings a student into a relationship with a caring adult in a safe place to learn and grow, giving them a healthy start for a healthy future.
In addition, through our CIS College Access Program (CAP), students who show potential for academic excellence identified in their sixth-grade year are guided through their middle and high school years to help meet college acceptance criteria through the help of our mentors.

NCMS BAND CONCERT!!!
BY: Breonna Griggs
The band concert on Tuesday December 13 was a great success. All grades played as well as the jazz band and strings.
All grades played Christmas songs to keep the spirit jolly. Some songs played were Here Comes Santa Clause, by eighth grade, Merry Christmas Machine by seventh grade, and Have a Rockin Christmas by sixth grade. Strings and jazz band played a great concert.
A special thanks to Mr. Nieves for teaching us these wonderful songs.
Chorus Concert
By: Areyon Williams
On December 6th 2011, the school chorus had their Christmas concert. We opened up with some traditional songs with solos led by Halie Joyner and Haley Brantley. Then the 8th grade chorus did a couple of selections. We had two group performances, a girl group performance and a boy group performance. Then musical theater and 7th graders did their play called Jingle Bell Jukebox, and after that was done, all chorus students came back on the stage for This Christmas, which was led by Javan Richardson. We had two special guests, Malik Winsted and Nikia Dunn.
Have a Merry Christmas from the NCMS Chorus!
Let's Say a Big Hello to... Our New Staff
By: Javan Richardson
As a Nash Central Middle School student, I would like to welcome our new staff to NCMS. This year we have three new staff/faculty members.
We would also like to welcome our new 7th Grade Teacher, Ms. Bennett. Ms. Bennett teaches 7th Grade Math. Ms. Bennett says that she loves spending time with her three sons, Victor, Donovan, and Devon. She also enjoys teaching math, coaching soccer and spending time with her family.
We would also like to welcome our new art teacher, Ms. Flowers. Ms. Flowers attended Barton College in Wilson. This is her first year teaching. Before coming to NCMS, she was an art tutor. What inspired her to be an art teacher was her high school art teacher. Ms. Flowers is a painter, her favorite show is The Big Bang Theory, and she has two cats. Make sure to make her feel as welcome as possible.
Mrs. Barnes is our new Assistant Principal. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and
spending time with family. Mrs. Barnes has two sons. Their names are Kameron and Tyler.
Kameron is 12 and Tyler is 5. This is Mrs. Barnes 14th year working for Nash Rocky Mount
Public Schools. She was a teacher for 10 years at an elementary school. Mrs. Barnes has taught
all subjects, and she also was a special education teacher.
